Pinterest

Hi!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer full of relaxation, sun and fun!
I know this blog is a quiet, quiet place but I still have every intention of spending more time here someday soon. I'm still sewing all the time, but I'm not a blogger that can handle my busy family and blogging. Now that the kids are bigger there always seems like so much to do. I go to bed each day feeling even more behind on the mental list I have going than I was the day before. :)

I just wanted to pop in and answer a question I am getting A LOT in my email. If you have emailed me this question without a response, I'm sorry. There have just been so many of them I've given up on replying to each one individually (I was for awhile). Also, if you've emailed and haven't heard a response from me, I don't check my blog email each day now that I don't blog often. When I do check it I try to get back to the folks with sewing issues first!

Ok, the question. Why can't I pin your tutorials?! Thank you to those of you who have asked this politely! :) To be honest, a few people have been quite rude about it.
I understand in this new Pinterest obsession this could be quite frustrating. I hear you. And, I thank you for liking a tutorial enough that you want to pin it! Right now though I have decided not to allow pinning on this blog. Mainly because of my own neurotic reasons that may not make sense to many, but this is what I've decided none the less. I know I put the content out there to begin with, so I should be ok with my stuff being pinned all over the place, right? Well, maybe I should be, but I'm not. I'm happy with this cozy little corner of the internet. For those who have pointed out I am losing traffic, that's ok with me. I love that you are all here and pop in from time to time, especially when I used to put so much work into this blog, but this blog is not a money maker for me. I hope that some of you will still find the tutorials here useful and will want to bookmark them!

Yes, you may find the odd project on Pinterest. Many of you learned about Pinterest and started using it far before I knew what it was all about. Projects that were pinned before are still kicking around and I don't think there is anyway I can remove them.

Anyway, that's all for now. :) Thank you for reading!

Little Things

My niece came into the world safely. She is beautiful and perfect and even though I haven’t met her yet, due to the thousands of miles between us, I’m in love. She is a very special little girl with a big purpose in life. I can already see that.

She was born yesterday morning and I spent most of the day alternating between crying with joy, and then just crying because I was so heartbroken I couldn’t be there. I'm a bit of a crier. I put her precious picture up on the laptop and sat and made these.

I’ve been on a bit of a crochet kick lately and I think it is because my sewing room is so messy. I can’t work in that mess, yet can’t bring myself to clean it up. It’s so much easier to just shut the door.
Thank god for sewing though, it has brought me much sanity in the past several months. I thought about doing a bit of a recap of what has come off my machine since summer. In the end the list was too long and not terribly interesting. An assembly line of pajamas (a dozen or so pairs), T shirts, a couple of knit dresses, doll clothes…everything already weeks into rotation.

Back to the little knit baby galoshes…

This pattern has a really neat way of doing the sole so that the boots stand up on their own very easily. I really enjoyed making these.

Look how small! I need to get these in the mail today so they fit for at least half a day.
Pattern can be found HERE. This pattern maker has no idea who I am, but a cute and well written pattern is worth sharing.

Have a happy Monday! :)

New Life

May I come back?
I know it’s my blog but I feel the need to ask after just disappearing without an explanation for so long.

The second part of 2011 was lousy. No doubt the worst year I have had in my adult life.
Life is hard.
Yet, most of us choose to keep living and to stay hopeful. I’ve decided 2012 is going to be better.

My youngest sister is about to have a baby girl. I worry about her a lot. She lives far away from me and I can’t be with her right now and it hurts. She called 2 hours ago to say labour is starting. Probably why I am coming here to post after so long. I’m nervous and anxious for her and wish nothing more than I could be there holding her hand. I don't know what to do with all of this nervous energy.

Last week I made this for my new precious niece.

Crummy unsharp photo taken in this dark room just now.

I’ve posted about both of these patterns in the past.

I crocheted the booties on what would have been my 2nd youngest sister’s 25th birthday (I have 4 sisters). This new baby girl will be named after her. Sitting here on that day I hoped it would lessen the heavy feeling in my chest.
My sister passed away this past summer.
My biggest hope is that this new baby girl who will have her name, will also bring some healing to those most hurting.

The little vintage buttons on them came from my grandmother in this box.
She passed away in the fall.
Although hard, it was easier to understand her passing. She was 90. She was the only other person in my life that talked sewing with me. Last week I donated some of the things she has sent me over the years that I will never use. One of the things was the moo moo. I can’t help but wonder where it will end up.

If you have ever had someone close to you pass away maybe you will have thought this way too. You wonder where they are exactly, what they are doing. If they are happy, if they are looking down on us so to speak. I’ve lost a stepfather who was a dad to me and I loved more than anything. Two years ago I lost my real father who later in life became a best friend. There have been times I have felt them so close and haven’t doubted they are still with me.
I haven’t felt my sister.
I’m comforted tonight knowing exactly where she is. I know without a doubt she is with my youngest sister surrounding her with love as this new baby girl joins this world.

No promises to how often I will be around, but I’ll try to pop in more often.
